Thank you for taking a moment to visit my web site. My name is Jessica McCarty and I am a graphic designer with 5 wonderful years of experience.
I received a bachelor of fine arts with a concentration in graphic design from Georgia State University. During this time, I focused my energies in the graphic design field through required courses as well as electives. I also had the opportunity to experience a great internship with Turner Broadcasting working at CNN. While at CNN, I was able to learn the facets of broadcast design and animated graphics. Working in the On-Air Promotions department, I was able to assist designers by utilizing my strong typography skills and offering my opinion as a designer. Throughout my internship, I worked on several assignments that allowed me to explore my design capabilities in a professional environment. My primary assignment was to create a storyboard for a 30-second topical for Lou Dobbs Moneyline. I generated the concept for the topical in frame-format to be reviewed by Turner producers. My concept was embraced and aired on television.
While pursuing my degree and being involved with my internship at CNN, I also began freelance work with Brookwood International. Brookwood offered me the opportunity to create computer-generated illustrations that represented their products for packaging. In addition to computer-generated illustration, I also created hand-drawn renderings of merchandise for presentations.
As Brookwood’s needs for a graphic designer decreased, I began freelancing with Jupiter Global Trading. I also created computer-generated illustrations for their products and began developing their packaging design. I presented packaging concepts and prototypes to potential clientele such as Saks Inc., who serves Saks Fifth Avenue and Parisians department stores. This allowed me to work closely with several clients in order to design packaging that met each store’s specific needs while also incorporating the look and feel of Jupiter Global Trading.
After earning my degree, I began a full-time position with an insurance company, TSI Sports. Throughout my time at TSI, my primary responsibilities included developing marketing materials, building the company web site and developing signage for promotional contests/events.
During this time, I worked closely with GM, BMW and other well-known clients to provide brand-specific logos and signage. Some of my designs were event logos for Chevrolet, the Chicago Cubs, the Chicago White Sox and signage for the BMW Golf Invitational, which traveled throughout the U.S. in the summer of 2004. I also designed several brochures and marketing materials for TSI, directed toward the automotive industry. These brochures and mailers illustrated the services that TSI Sports offered, in a creative and effective manner. I have also ventured into the world of new media by creating TSI’s web site. During this process I was able to attend several Macromedia and Adobe-authorized classes allowing me to acquire a great knowledge of various web applications and embark on a new realm of design outside of print media.
As a freelance designer, my current portfolio includes design work for Char-Broil, Simutrain, The Columbus Museum, Capital Consultants, Brazeal Consulting and a variety of other clients.
